Lois-C2-Red Patrick-C3-Red Larry-C5-Red
This was the line-up that left RAY'S on a bright, sunny morning headed for the Coquille Car Show at Sturdivant park on 8/20/05. The all-red caravan was being led by Larry and was being driven at warp speed, as usual. ( I like it that way ) Upon arrival at the park, the only word I could think of to describe the scene was " BEE-OOO-TI-FUL ". The mass turnout was humongas and the turnout of fantastic cars was beyond all expectations. The box lunch of steak and corn on the cob was worth the price and wait in line. I can't remember all the cars that were on display but suffice it to say that they were all unique. CANDY-APPLE RED to YELLOW----1927 to 1974----they were all nothing short of spectacular. As I said before, " BEE-OOO-TI-FUL "

7 A.M. Time to get up and get goin'. Those two cars gotta get cleaned and shined for the show. Outside and open up OL GEZER, and guess what? BATTERY IS DEAD!!! Bob is up at camp, probably getting ready to marinate the chicken for lunch...now what do I do? Go out to the shop and get the battery charger (call my son to make sure what I am doing is not going to hurt anything) and plug it in. Guess I'll shine the car up while we wait. Okay, got the blue car done, now on to ol' red. The drivers door handle sticks and I can't get it open...so much for that. Check on the blue car...battery not charging...so-o-o-o guess it's time to call Chris Panter and see if he will stop by and give me a jump start, upon calling my son found out that it probably wouldn't work, so decided to exchange batteries. The battery swap was almost done when Chris showed up...he completed the connections and my car started right up. Now into the shop for the rags, spray wax, tire shine, etc. Took the blue car over to the VFW site and came back for the soda and raffle items. Sure hope Bob is having more fun than me!
While coming back to the show 'n shine was hoping the day would turn out nice as it was a little cloudy and damp. We all got busy getting the raffle items, signs, shirts and hats out...and then on to staging cars. Chris led out by parking his shiny blue '74, followed by our '78 silver over blue "OL GZER", then Patricks pretty red flame car that had just gotten to come home from the shop after being restored, John & Andriana's very nice green convertible, Gary & Diana's neat as a pin two tone, Dianne's very shiny burgandy '89, Joe's clean coppery convertible, Lois's great red '65, Bob's '78 low mileage pace car, Larry's pretty red '99, Jerome & Danielle's cool '82, Mike's nice soundin' black '78, and Bruce's '78 pace car..twins? What a pretty site!
We all had a great time visiting & getting to know some of the newer folks that were brave enough to get their cars out of the garage....and of course looking at all the nice cars. The visiting carried on over lunch, you could hear the conversations with comments floating around of where to get interiors done, good paint jobs, detailing products, etc. Then it was time for pulling the winning tickets out of the buckets for the raffle items....everyone was happy with their prizes. Larry & Rachel tallied the People's Choice votes and Patrick's red flame was the winner, with Bob White's '78 pace car and John & Andriana's convertible tying for second place. The cutest one though was Bob White's lil' vette!
We all helped to clean & tidy up and scooted home to garage our "babies". Thanks to everyone who came and participated in our first annual Show 'N Shine...see you there again next year!

Some of us showed up rain or shine at Ray's parking lot. Larry was there with our new members Gary & Diana Rodman. They have a beautiful 86 C4 just in immaculate condition. Sandi drove her vette and I brought old red. Chris and Rachel drove their 74 C3. We met Dianne in North Bend and topped off our tanks. The Cruise was a fun ride to Florence. We were six cars in all and the weather got real nice for the parade. The tops came off and we puttered around shining our vettes for the parade. Dianne lost the alternator in her car, so Larry found one and Chris installed it for her just before the parade started. I must say, these are the type of people that I like to cruise around with. Their gifts of hospitality are truly a blessing to those in need. I want to thank Diana Rodman for the use of her new hat that she offered so I wouldn't sun burn my balding head. The parade was fun. We drove two abreast in the parade. Larry in his red 99 C5 and Gary and Diana in their Gold 86 C4. Then Chris and Rachel in their blue 74 C3 and myself in old red a 78 C3, followed by Dianne in her red 89 C4 and Sandi in her silver over dark blue 78 C3. Sandi almost got a ticket for expired license plates but we had already started driving in the parade. Chris was a crowd pleaser. I was doing the front wheel hop and the people were yelling DO A WHEELIE. Some were saying "he must have hydraulics in the front", others were yelling "burn them off", So Chris smoked them real good for the crowd a few times. Rachel was having a stroke, saying cut it out!! One person said it was the only one out there that could do it. It was fun to see their eyes expressing excitement and hear their cheers as these two rowdy vettes passed by. I tried to power brake a burn out and just pushed the front tires sliding down the street, no burn outs for old red. Chris and I didn't know about no burn outs in the parade. The officer standing beside us when Chris smoked his tires said, "THAT WAS A FREE ONE". There must have been several thousand people along the parade route. a few people thought our group was lost because there were probably 45 other Corvettes that were way ahead of us. The parade ended with a single file passing in review for some two hundred bikers parked on both sides of the street in old town by the water front. They were trying to get Chris to smoke the tires for them, but Rachel had him by the short hair to keep him from it. They seemed to enjoy our passing by with our reving engines and cherping tires and old reds front wheel hopping.
It started to rain, so it was a mad scramble to get the tee-tops back on. Then we drove back to Reedsport for a Mexican dinner together and reflect upon the events of the day. We each went our separate way from there going home.
Thanks for the good memories and fun time.
Respectfully submitted

March 19, 2005
A windy day on the coast it was. Five members showed up for the cruise Dianne, Mike, Larry, Sandi & Myself (Bob). We waited until nine o'clock then we headed out south. Going thru Port Orford we saw Joe getting fuel for his 71 Corvette convertible. He caught up with us some miles past Humbug. We had pulled off the side of the highway for pictures and such. Now we had a caravan of five vettes. The wind was warm and furious.
Just past Gold Beach we started to get into the oncoming storm. It was mostly a mist until then.
Hey do you know what you get when you buck a sixty mile an hour head wind going 70 miles an hour? You get leaks where you never had them before. Oh it wasn't that bad, but Sandi & I were glad we had brought a few shop towels with us.
A little fuel and a pit stop at the port in Brookings and then south again. We saw a commercial building engulfed in flames right next to the highway on the south end of Brookings. Big clouds of black smoke crossed the road in front of us. The fire department was there attempting to cool it a little. We turned east at 197 and it turned into 199. Lots of big Redwood trees along the way and the Smith river was a pretty picture. Joe and his wife left the pack here and went on to Crescent City, having to get back to Bandon for work.
The road was as crooked as a dogs hind leg. The speed limit was 55mph around the curves, but that would have been a road race speed. Tight turns and a narrow highway was fine for the Corvettes but there were a lot of other cars that didn't take the road as easily, but that didn't keep the other drivers from trying to keep pace with the Corvettes.
Have you noticed that some drivers try to pass you or race with you when you are out for a cruise? Isn't that a kick?
In between the curvy spots there were some passing areas but you had better be bunched up and go like hell or else some of these lanes are not long enough. Of course the cars you are trying to pass are now approaching speeds of 70 mph because they are tired of the thirty mile an hour curves spilling their groceries and luggage all over the back, milk, pop and Beer spilling out the tailgate of their Toyota station wagon.
Larry, you weren't egging them on, were you? .
We got into Grants Pass just after noon and ate lunch at Si Casa Flores. It was good to sit and eat together enjoying the moment with light hearted laughter.
We hit the freeway and headed for home with Sandi in the lead. Sandi wanted to go on south but I, as the co-pilot directed her North toward home. A little more fuel in Winston and then on homeward. Mike disappeared when we stopped at Love's for gas and Dianne couldn't be seen anymore following behind at Camas Valley so at Remote Larry told Sandi & I to go on home and he would try to find out what happened to Dianne. We trust that all got home safe,
Thanks for the good time
Bob
Note:
( Dianne had passed us when we stopped at Remote and when I finally got her on the cell phone she was already between Myrtle Point and Coquille, far ahead of us) Larry

January 8, 2005
It had hailed all night before the cruise here in Bandon, we all showed up at Ray's parking lot in Bandon to see who was going. Larry & Oleta, Rachel & Chris, and Bob & Sandi showed up in their substitutes.
We Corvettes were left in our garages. It was very thoughtful, seeing that the weather was not good enough for the babied ones. Not that they mind getting dirty and all the bathing that follows, we didn't miss the mess and sand on the road that would possibly chip our paint.
At 12:00 noon those present started their engines and Larry led out for North Bend in Oleta's Chevy Lumina. Well, that was the last time we saw them on the way over there. Rachael was driving her new Dodge diesel powered pickup. It towered high over all the rest of us. Chris probably had to give her a leg up to get her up into the drivers seat. Rachael and Bob followed FAR behind. I might say Rachael doesn't mind driving with her right foot near the floor board, but still we couldn't catch up with Larry. Minutes later We were in Coos Bay, then North Bend at the Tia Dynasty lower parking lot. When we walked into the resturant, Dianne was already there along with Larry and Oleta sipping hot tea, wondering what took us so long. Barb and Stevie showed up leaving their corvette in the garage and instead she brought her new husband with her, whom is now a new member of the club. There was lots of laughter and conversations. The food was good and plenty of it. When Lunch was over, Dianne brought in her Chocolate cake that was to die for and we inhaled it. We even ate the chocolate frosting. All the time thanking Mike and Richard for their share which we also ate. Man it was good!! It was a birthday cake for those who had birthdays in January. Barb, Bob , and Mike. Those of us present paid our 2005 dues. We talked of meeting in February at the VFW hall in Bandon. It has been offered to us as a meeting place on Thursday evenings. Watch the news Letter for the time and Date. We decided not to have the Mystery Cruise seeing that no corvettes showed up. I must say the event was very enjoyable, just a good time to get to know one another. Thank you Dianne for the Cake and kindness of your thoughts.
Happy Birthday to the January birthday members.

Your Friend, Bob

Our first event of the new year started with the Bandon members meeting at Ray's food Center and traveling to North Bend to meet the north county members at Tai's Dynasty
Because of the inclement weather we decided to cancel the Mystery Tour and settled for a nice lunch and club meeting at Tai's Dynasty. Although there were only ten of us today, we had a good time. (and as always the food was very good) We wished the three members (Barb, Bob and Mike) that were born in January a happy birthday and enjoyed a special chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. Dianne made the cake and it was great... Thanks Di.......... Where were you Mike?
We will meet at the VFW Hall in Bandon on Feburary 17, 2005 at 6:30, for our next meeting and dinner.

Light Festival Dec. 04

The day was good here at Bandon and Coos Bay, approx 66 degrees and sunny. The pavement was dry, a good day for a Corvette crusie.
Sandi and I were getting fuel at the texico station when Mike pulled along side and had his t-tops off, wandering why we didn't do the same. So we scurried back to the house and got our top covers and removed our tops and got in the groove for a fun time.
The Bandon members that wanted to go, showed up at Ray's parking lot. Mike Gray in his pretty black 78 coupe, Richard Gagnon in his pretty red 76 coupe, Sandi Butler and myself in our 78 silver over blue vette and Larry and Oleta McCasland in his 99 Torch Red convertible with it's top down. Everyone was well greeted and we chatted about our cars and then we decided we better get to the meeting place in Coquille. Richard said the last one there was a rotten egg, so the stage was set for a quick drive up 42S. Larry and Richard took off back toward the south exit and Mike and Sandi went to the north exit all meeting at the traffic light. Larry and Richard got the green light first so away they went. By the time Mike and Sandi got their green light a couple of other cars got in our parade. By the time we reached Bearcreek hills there was just one car in the middle of the four corvettes heading for Coquille. Mike was first behind the brake riding driver in the foreign made car. As we rounded the two last curves at the bottom Richard was planning to pass Larry so coming out of the curves onto the straight it was second gear time for Larry and approaching three digit numbers then third just as He and Richard spotted the county mounty parked facing them half way down the straight stretch. Their pace deminished rapidly as they pondered what might happen in the next few minutes.
Just behind all this another scene was rapidly developing as Mike and Sandi were looking for a clear spot to pass and it came quickly so both vettes passed the foreign car at the same time at an accelerating rate of speed, but too was to deminish quickly as we spotted that the car that was sitting along the side of the road was a sheriff's car. Oh what a rush it was. The ride to Coquille was a little slower but not anything boring. About 12 miniutes later we were in Coquille waiting at the DMV parking lot as was preplanned, for the cars to meet us from Coos Bay-North Bend area. Dianne Showed up in her trusty gold 85 corvette which is for sale by- the- way. She brought Christmas candy canes wrapped with ribbon for us there. Thanks for your kindness Dianne.
Again we took off for Roseburg, but not before Richard could say, the last one there is a rotten egg. Larry lead out followed by Mike and then Sandi, then Richard and the fifth corvette, Dianne. We cruised in line all the way to the first traffic light in Myrtle Point. Larry was leading us in the slow lane just about to stop when this red corvette pulled along side in the fast lane. There was a guy wearing a floppy brimmed hat driving it. By the time everyone got stopped at the traffic light we figured it out to be Richard that was driving the other vette. Well, those of us that were left behind, which were the remaing four, played catchup with Richard for the next 30 miles or so. It was somewhere past Bridge working our way through traffic, when we could see a glimpse periodically of Richard. Now everyone was getting use to a faster pace and we let the hammer down there at Remote passing all the cars on the road there, except for a Harley ridden by a seasoned biker. Larry made it past even him, but not the remaining three Mike , Sandi ,and Dianne. It was fun pushing the biker through the curves, Oh he would go as fast as he could corner but every time he looked in his rear view mirrow there they were, Three corvettes, a black one followed by a silver and blue one and this gold one that seemed to be warming up it's tires for a coming event. We played cat and mouse with the poor guy but mike didn't let him have any slack. He just blew by him there at Bear creek park as we got into the up hill passing area. Sandi followed him doing the same pulling back into the slower lane behind Mike. As we did there was this gold vette that went streaking by us and Sandi was off like a streak on the chase up the hill letting Mike watch us all from behind. (One thing I have failed to mention by now was the temperature has dropped several degrees and the sun is getting blocked by patches of low fog. I thought my hair was starting to frost up a bit ). There we found Richard I think he was missing us. Well dianne didn't let up when she caught up with larry and Richard and they were hot after her Sandi managed to get behind Richard now number four in line.
The road was better closer to Camas Valley so the vettes could cruise at a greater rate of speed. We gave chase going through the curves just before Camas Valley. Well I can't speak for the rest of them, but Sandi and I were coming around this corner about 75 MPH when low and behold there was a Sheriff's patrol car setting off to the side facing us.( It seemed that he had a bewildered look on his face trying to decide as to how he would catch that gold vette leading those other two red vettes. Apparently he decided to stay put after all there was five of them streaks that went by). Well the adrenaline rush was enough to slow us down, We figured Mike could take the heat for us, He was the last one past him. Well, we finally caught up with Dianne after she slowed down in Camas Valley. Then it was a brisk pace on to Roseburg.
We Stopped in Winston and swapped stories of the ride and decided to have Chinese food buffet for supper. You can ask Dianne how to get there or not. The food was great and so was our time together. Mike and Richard said "grace" before we ate. There was some talk of the cost of each time you went back to get another plate of food, so Richard just went back and got his donuts in his hands and he was still grabbing them as we went up to pay . Thanks Richard for the light heartedness and laughter.
Now as we were parting the temperature is at least in the 40 degree range and Mike is still cruising without his T-Tops he had left them in Bandon so Sandi gave him an Indian blanket to wrap up in for his freezing ride home. The Cruise ended there, some went home and larry and Bob took their wives to the light shows before burning the road up coming home to Bandon.
THAT WAS A FUN CRUISE...

STORY 2
I found Bob and Sandi at the Train Lady getting coffee for Mike and themselves. I also saw Richard fueling up as I drove through the town of Coquille. I found the rest of the crowd at the DMV. I had no idea at the time that they had had a close call with the County Officials between Coquille and Bandon.
I had been looking forward to this trip and the weather had turned out to be not only sunny but warm. In Coos Bay, I read on the thermometer at a bank 70 degrees!
As we paraded our way to Myrtle Point, Richard moved next to Larry in the slow lane and took off. We didn’t see him again for quite sometime. The sight of even 5 Corvettes all together is always a thrill for me. As we worked our way through the mountains, the temptation to take some fast corners overtook me. I am not one to take a lot of chances with anything, but here it was a sunny day, in the company of other Corvettes and power that I had never really pushed much since I bought my first Corvette almost two year ago. There is a first time for everything and this seemed the time. So I pushed on the gas and I passed everyone and ran the corners like I was the only one on the road. It was a thrill, the adrenaline rushing, the river on one side and rock walls on the other. The idea of being just a wrong turn from disaster continued to push my adrenaline, but the final rush was when I saw another county Sheriff’s car sitting alongside the road. Now the thrill turned into shear fright! I looked at my gages and I was going 95. I slammed on the brakes and when I passed him, I was going 68. I continued to slow down; put in my place and scared back to reality! I could only hope that he would focus on the Corvettes behind me and maybe one of them could take the heat!
I had no idea that the same thing had happened to Larry 50 miles earlier in a different county. We must have had our guardian angel on our shoulder that day! We both used all of our good Karma.
We stopped outside Winston to catch our breath and decide where to eat. Chinese Buffet was the choice, and that sounded good to me!
The choice of restaurant was great. Thanks, Mike! It was much better than the one I found. It had no people or food! Lots of great choice of food, but it wasn’t until the end when I found my favorite, Sushi! I must have still been jumpy from the close call as I kept spilling everything. It’s a good thing that I was among fellow Corvette drivers!
I followed Mike back as far as Coquille. He was bundled up since he left his T-tops at home. We had a leisurely trip back. Thanks Mike for leading the way! You’re right, Bob! THAT WAS A FUN CRUISE!
